El Salvador 12, Anguilla 0

El Salvador's national football (soccer) team played its first World Cup qualifying match yesterday in San Salvador. The home team blew away the team from tiny Anguila 12-0. From FIFA.com:
In the night's one true hiding, former CONCACAF giants El Salvador took a step toward renewing their past glories with a 12-0 whipping of outgunned Anguilla. Rudi Coralles scored five goals to move to the top of the region's scoring charts while aging ace Ronald Cerritos grabbed a hat-trick in what should effectively put an end to Anguilla's dream of reaching the next stage.

The next match between the two teams is in Washington D.C. in March and the winner of the series advances to face Panama in June. All of this leads towards the World Cup in 2010 in South Africa.

El Salvador beats Anguilla 12 zip.

Saca says Salvadoran troops to come home from Iraq and will tell Bush this during upcoming visit.

Funes up in preference polls for president.
What comes next dear friends to our favorite Pulgracito pais? More open democratic space for political participation? The overturning of the new anti-terrorist law? Freedom for the Suchitoto political prisoners? An FMLN victory in 2009. Romero canonized as a saint? An end to gold mining? Or, the greatest thing of all, El Salvador in the finals of the Mundial in 2010.

ha ha ha. alwayz gotta enjoy the good humor. the one bright thing is el salvador finally won, at least, and with a good score. so as not to take anything away from this victory since winning will alwayz be winning, let's also acknowledge that this is just the begginning of the preliminary stages for world cup qualifiers. anguila is probably the size of a barrio from a very small salvadoran city with a total population of probably a handful of hundreds of people. so the real test will be against panama and if they happen to advance to the next round, the truth will be told or played when they face against concacaf top guns USA, mecsico and costa rica...so just take this game as if it were a mere friendly, with a very, very low quality opponent.
